About Alma

When Alma Tavares was 5, she was suddenly diagnosed in February 2023 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) Cancer, and she had to go through 2 years of extreme chemo treatments.

Alma was a very happy and active child – in particular, she liked to dance, play with her cousins and friends, enjoyed playing the piano and loved to travel to Dominican Republic. Unfortunately, after Alma was diagnosed everything changed and she spent a lot of her time in the hospital. The typical chemo made her very sick and the doctors had to change her regular three-week treatment to a weekly” Reily” leg injection treatment. Alma hated these injections, but she dealt with them better than I ever could imagine.

On March 13th, 2025, after two long years of a lot of emergency room visits, doctor appointments, chemo and other medication, Alma finally completed her last chemo treatment and rang the bell. This was one of the most happiest day in all of our lives.

Alma is currently in remission for several months and she is returning back to her usual self and doing everything she enjoyed before being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) Cancer.
