About Alma
When Alma Tavares was 5, she was suddenly diagnosed on February 2023 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) Cancer and she had to go through twelve months of extreme treatments.
Alma was a very happy and active child – in particular, she liked to dance, play with her cousins and friends, enjoyed playing the piano and loved to travel to Dominican Republic. Unfortunately after she was diagnosed everything changed and she spent a lot of time in the hospital. The chemo did the typical things that made her very sick and the doctors had to change her regular three week treatment to a weekly “Reily” leg injections treatment. Alma hated these injections but she dealt with it better than I ever could imagine.
My beautiful Alma is absolutely obsessed with going to Disney World and getting back to her usual self. She is the most amazing strong and brave little girl that I know. Sometimes she doesn’t feel well and has bad times with her medicine and treatments, but when she feels well she is full of energy. She likes to do fun stuff like watch movies, arts, crafts and roller skating . It has been more than a year with the treatment and everything is going good.
I believe that we’re only going to thrive as a family after going through this and we can’t wait to ring the bell when she is cancer free in about a year!!
